Business to Business Collections

Domestic and International Commercial Collections

The attorneys of James E. Smith, Jr., P.A., in Columbia, South Carolina, have successfully represented clients in the U.S. and internationally in commercial collections. Attorneys with our firm are licensed to practice in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia, but can work in affiliation with other lawyers throughout the USA.

We represent both debtors and creditors in commercial collections. If you have a business debt you need collected or if you have gotten in over your head financially and want to explore your options, please contact us for effective legal representation.

Our commercial collections business can involve vendors or suppliers, contractors and subcontracts — virtually any business to business transaction. We do not represent clients in consumer collections, however.

Business to Business Collections
Representing Creditors

If your firm needs to collect a business debt, we will first get all the information about the deal, including any contracts and payment timelines, schedules or deadlines. Then we will send a demand letter to the other company. In the vast majority of cases, this letter of collection leads to payment of the debt.

If payment is not forthcoming, our commercial collections lawyers will take steps to negotiate or litigate a positive resolution to the problem.

Representing Debtors

In today's economy, it is extremely easy for even the strongest companies to experience cash flow problems. If you are behind on a business debt and have received a letter demanding payment, contact us to discuss your options. We have successfully defended clients in collection actions. We may be able to renegotiate the terms of your agreement with the creditor. If not, we can defend you in litigation.

Representing International Firms

As a state legislator, as a captain in the Army National Guard, and as a private citizen, our founder, James E. Smith Jr., has had the opportunity to travel extensively. He has also had the opportunity to meet international businesspeople visiting South Carolina. These experiences and associations have led to the representation of numerous international companies here in the U.S.

Our commercial collections attorneys have successfully represented clients from Holland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Japan.

While many large international firms have a permanent presence in the U.S., many more do not. They often need legal representation to collect bad debts, among other issues.

If your firm needs an attorney who understands the global marketplace and has a track record of success in commercial collections for international firms, please contact our office in Columbia, South Carolina, to arrange a consultation. Email us or call us at 803-933-9800.
